SC dismisses HC rule over ‍‍‍‍`inactivity‍‍‍‍` of investigative bodies on S Alam‍‍‍‍`s ‍‍‍‍`assests‍‍‍‍` abroad

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today dismissed the High Court‍‍`s suo moto (voluntary) rule, which questioned the respondents‍‍` "inaction and failure" to take appropriate legal action against the owner of S Alam Group for allegedly gaining large amounts of property abroad without the persmission of Bangladesh Bank.

The Supreme Court, however, said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) might take separate legal action on this issue.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, delivered the ruling after holding hearing on a leave to appeal petition challenging the HC order and rule directing authorities to investigate the alleged claims against the owner of S Alam Group.

The chief justice said the details of the verdict would be included in the entire text, which has yet to be disclosed.

The five other judges of the bench were Justice Borhanuddin, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim.
